Description

An area of the sky that I really like, due to a variety of so many objects to observe.  A real smorgasbord to study.   Imaged only in Ha at just over 3 hours as the moon was 94% illuminated and clouds moved in.    However, that did not curtail capturing some detail of these objects, albeit not a pretty color picture that would appeal to most folks.

Version I - is the widefield view but I made various cropped versions to highlight the main objects of interest:

NGC 7510- a 7th magnitude Open Cluster that is 11,000 light-years away, located in the constellation Cepheus.  It is approximately 6 arcmins, corresponding to a diameter of 20 light-years. (Version Original)

NGC 7538 (Sh2-158) - a bright nebula roughly 10x5 arcminutes.  It is located about 9,100 light-years from Earth. It is home to the biggest yet discovered protostar which is about 300 times the size of the solar system. (Version D)

NGC 7635 (Bubble Nebula) - the most recognized and famous object in this region, it is a peculiar 12th magnitude planetary nebula near the open cluster, M52 (see below).  It is about 11,000 light-years away and the "bubble" is about 10 light- years across.  It was created by a stellar wind from the hot, young massive star and the glow is due to the central star SAO 20575 that is approximately 1-20 solar masses. (Version E)

Sh2-157 - perhaps the second most recognizable object in this image, the so-called, Lobster Claw, is an emission nebula, also some 11,000 light-years from Earth.   There are even other smaller objects within the area, such as the Planetary Nebula PLN 110-0.1 is located near the center of the upper-right quadrant. The bright nebular spot near the center of the image is Lyn's Bright Nebula 537 (LBN537), also known as Sharpless 157a. The small cluster of stars just above the bottom pincer is Markarian 50 and the bright cluster of stars located above the top pincer is open cluster NGC 7510. (Version F)

Sh2- 158 (NGC7538) & Sh2-159 - this is another view of Sh2-158 (NGC7538) as described above along with Sh2-159, another emission nebula in constellation Cassiopeia. (Version G)

NGC 7654 (M52)- an open cluster located near the far western edge of Cassiopeia.  It has a total magnitude of 7.3, with an estimated range of 4,000-5,000 light-years away. (Version C)
